SLHS Final Event: Celebrating our Journey and Future Directions
On Friday, 9 May 2025, over 100 participants from research, practice, and policy came together to mark the successful completion of the Swiss Learning Health System (SLHS).
Over the past eight years, the SLHS has explored new frontiers in knowledge translation through a close collaboration with eleven universities across Switzerland. Together, we have built a strong community of more than 300 stakeholders and trained 51 doctoral researchers, equipping them to shape the future of Learning Health Systems.
On this Friday, we gathered one final time to look back on our journey and to look ahead to the opportunities that lie ahead.

Event Highlights:
- Keynote Address: Dr. Charles Friedman, a pioneer of the Learning Health System approach, opened the day with an inspiring keynote that set the tone for our reflections.
- Research Presentations: SLHS researchers shared their innovative work in a lively news show format, showcasing the progress they have made.
- Introducing the Future: The Smarter Health Care initiative was presented as the next step in Swiss health services research, committed to continuing the SLHS legacy by connecting research, policy, and practice.
- Stakeholder Dialogues: Participants took part in four live, interactive sessions to discuss key topics using participatory methods that reflected the co-creation spirit of the SLHS.
- Panel Discussion: An engaging panel on the Health2040 project gave insight into the future of primary care in Switzerland, alongside the release of a new action plan.
We are not saying goodbye – we are setting sail for new horizons. The SLHS continues its mission through the Smarter Health Care network and the Competence Center for Learning Health Systems at the Faculty of Health Sciences and Medicine, University of Lucerne.
Thank you to everyone who joined us on this incredible journey.
