Prof. Astrid Schämann
Astrid Schämann is a graduated physiotherapist and holds an MSc in Medical Education as well as a PhD in Educational Sciences from Humboldt-University, Berlin, Germany. Currently, Astrid Schämann is appointed as deputy dean of the School of Health Professions, since 12 years as director of the Institute of Physiotherapy and as professor at the School of Health Professions, ZHAW. She is responsible for the fourfold mandate BSc, MSc, research and development as well as continuing education and services of the largest institution for physiotherapy in higher education within the German speaking part of Europe. She is a member of various national and international committees in the fields of health care, health care services and education. Furthermore, she is a member of the World Health Profession Alliance and a member of the Senate of the Swiss Academy of Medical Sciences and was involved in the development of the “Charter for the inter-professional cooperation of health professionals” national project. Her research topics lay in the area of professionalism, professionalization and academic development of the health professions’ roles as well as health service research including the development of new models for health service delivery. She serves as a scientific board member and reviewer for several journals.
